Pete’s Tips

- Try to be as relaxed as you can and the way you sit in the seat will help greatly in making yourself comfortable. This in turn will help you to concentrate on your surroundings.
- As you approach your car, check which way the wheels are pointing. You don’t want any surprises when the car moves in a different direction to what you expected.
- Before you open your door, make sure this does not obstruct approaching vehicles, especially in narrow roads.
- If someone else has been driving this car previously, adjust your rear vision mirror using your left hand, not your right.
- As you progress with your lessons, you will be taught to think and drive like ‘a driver’ - not someone who has just passed a driving test.
- The best distance to stay behind the vehicle in front of you, on a dry road is measured not in metres but in time. If 3 seconds is the correct ‘time’ - what number do you have to count to so as to be the minimum distance away?
